Journey of a Lifetime: A Guide to the Hajj – Workshop
Special guest speaker Imam Tahir Anwar- Born in London, Imam Tahir moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1983 and made San Jose his home. Upon completing his religious studies in India, he has been serving as the imam of one of the oldest masjids in the country, the Islamic Center of San Jose, since 2001. He is also the head of the Islamic Studies Department, and a teacher at Granada Islamic School in nearby Santa Clara, an institution in its 26th year. Imam Tahir now serves on the Human Relations Commission for the County of Santa Clara. He also sits on Zaytuna College's Management Committee as well as other panels and boards.

Guest speaker Waliya Lari – Producer at Channel 13 (KTRK) graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin as a senior fellow of the School of Communication. She earned a Bachelors of Journalism with a broadcast concentration and minors in Communications Studies and Islamic Studies. She worked for NBC News in New York for Dateline and the Today Show, working segments for the shows including an interview with Kofi Annan on the UN floor and the election night coverage of the 2004 presidential election. Her work has won numerous professional awards including a regional Emmy for the category of best producer. She is now producer for the 10 o’clock news for KTRK, the highest rated (most watched) newscast in the Houston media market.

Journey of a Lifetime: A Guide to the Hajj – Workshop
Special guest speaker Imam Tahir Anwar- Born in London, Imam Tahir moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1983 and made San Jose his home. Upon completing his religious studies in India, he has been serving as the imam of one of the oldest masjids in the country, the Islamic Center of San Jose, since 2001. He is also the head of the Islamic Studies Department, and a teacher at Granada Islamic School in nearby Santa Clara, an institution in its 26th year. Imam Tahir now serves on the Human Relations Commission for the County of Santa Clara. He also sits on Zaytuna College's Management Committee as well as other panels and boards.

The relief effort is headed by the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA), an organization dedicated to providing humanitarian and medical relief, is taking action to deliver aid to those who have been impacted by Hurricane Irene. IMANA Medical Relief USA is placing licensed nurses on standby for relief efforts along the East Coast in response to Hurricane Irene. Each year the IWISH organization endeavors to help Muslim families in need of assistance during the Ramadan Season. This season IWISH is committing to sponsor 300 families. Assistance will consist of $100 cash only to selected families to be used at their discretion. IWISH is requesting help from the Islamic community toward this endeavor. Your contribution(s) will be tax deductible and a receipt will be provided. You may designate your contribution(s) to be used as zaka’at or sadaqah. Donations made for zaka’at will be used only for Muslim families in need during Ramadan. Sadaqah will go into the IWISH general fund which provides assistance throughout the year. Sadaqah funds are used to provide meals to the homeless; rent and other assistance to families struggling to maintain a shelter; and

Each year the IWISH organization endeavors to help Muslim families in need of assistance during the Ramadan Season. This season IWISH is committing to sponsor 300 families. Assistance will consist of $100 cash only to selected families to be used at their discretion. IWISH is requesting help from the Islamic community toward this endeavor. Your contribution(s) will be tax deductible and a receipt will be provided. You may designate your contribution(s) to be used as Zaka’at or Sadaqah. Donations made for Zaka’at will be used only for Muslim families in need during Ramadan. Sadaqah will go into the IWISH general fund which provides assistance throughout the year. Sadaqah funds are used to provide meals to the homeless; rent and other assistance to families struggling to maintain a shelter; and

Info: During July and August, the Harris County Hospital District’s Troubleshooters Program is offering free immunizations for children two months to 18 years of age. A parent must be present with the child’s shot record. All shots will be given based on availability.

Info: 0 – 18 years of age. This summer feed your dreams by reading your favorite books during
the 2011 John P. McGovern Foundation Summer Reading Program (SRP). This is a free program that rewards reading with a free book for the home. To participate, read or listen to books, enter book titles or time read on your online reading log either at home or with the help of your librarian. Upon completion, go to your local Houston Public Library location to pick up your prize at the 10 and 20 book level.
INCENTIVES:
10 book/hour level: One free book
20 book/hour level: One free book, One voucher for a free ticket to a Houston Astros game (children K-12), and a coupon for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
